AboutEllen graduated from F.I.T. in 1976 with a degree in textile marketing. She later continued her education at The New York School of Interior Design where she studied color, spacial design and fabric history.
Ellen has decorated homes in Tenafly, Englewood, Alpine, and New York City. She is inspired by the four seasons in the northeast. The light is always changing and so is the weather -- so a room must accomodate these different moods and feelings.
Most of Ellen's work has been traditional English Country and French Country as well as eclectic design. Decorating has as much to do with confidence, as taste, and should never be dependent on prevailing trends and fashions.
I am blissfully unfettered by formal training, I have no hardfast rules. I never worry about furniture periods as long as it looks well, it will work.
Proportion is most important when buying pieces - a room can look dwarfed or cavernous if the sizing is off. For example, a powder room size chandelier will look off balance in a dining room.
One of my specialties is being able to walk into a room and visualize it completely decorated. My visualization extends to using existing decor and updating with fabrics, trims and color. |
